Open Wound

I had stayed up most of last night to watch the incredible results from the Scottish Parliament Election - a veritable tsunami of SNP victories, to quote Alex Neill. It did genuinely feel on waking up today that it was a different Scotland; one with a much brighter future.

Anyway, too much TV, so I headed out for a walk by the River Tweed, only five minutes from the house. This tree trunk caught my eye. It looks just like an open wound, with the fungus as some kind of mysterious (and I would say highly undesirable) infection. Yet the tree was growing fine, the two things existing in apparently comfortable harmony.
