Country Queen
Laura Cantrell at the Pleasance Theatre, Edinburgh. Iain phoned last week to let me know Laura was playing and as between us we seem to have all her albums, we both had the evening"off", and most people have no idea who she is, we thought we'd go. There were no cowboy hats thankfully, and the age of the crowd was pretty broad. Iain bought interweb tickets and I'm glad he did - It was sold out.
Iain and I took the opportunity to wander about before the gig, have some beers in the sunshine, and visit the Kalpna for a killer Indian veggie meal. I don't think I've been for 15 years and it's just the same - simple, excellent and a bit overpriced!
Then off to the gig. I'm not one for being star-struck, but I never really thought I'd see Ms Cantrell in the flesh so when she walked on stage I was a bit knocked out. She played with 3 men, all brilliant in their own right: a guitarist, a mandolin player and a percussionist. All great, but her VOICE! Oh, so perfect. Some more photos on Flickr.
She played a long set and in the end I had to run for my 2315 train (last one home!) so I just hope I didn't miss her doing I lost you but I found Country Music. Which is very special to me. I did ask her to play it, but there may be some issue or other there? Dunno.
Camera-wise (as if you care), I arsed about during the very good support act and concluded that fully manual was the only way. Happily, that worked and I've done nothing to this image, it's straight off the camera.
Tomorrow is another NB Acoustic set so more manual dark work... Hopefully the results will be worthwhile.
