Cake. Tower. Future.

It's the night of 7 May.

It's been a great day filled with good things, including the wedding celebration of Charles and Kristen. The reason for all the hullabaloo about cakes.

And here they are.

Today also featured some bike time, dog walking, playtime with the weeWeir and great conversations with old friends.

It was really refreshing to find ourselves sharing good chat about life without doing a good-old-days routine. It's stunning for the soul to know that we remain connected as we share a past and all those experiences - good and bad, something solid that our friendships are built on.

Temporary as these cakes may be, they are made from the experiences and practiced skill that my beautiful wife has acquired.

Moments of conversation in person with people from the other side of the world might not happen as often as we'd like, but we are privileged to have them when we can. And to know they are based in something more than a passing connection.

Thank you Charles and Kristen for reminding me of this. Have a splendidly blessed life together.
