Morning on the Canal
Retribution for the good weather we've had lately is taking effect today with thundery showers sweeping in from dark, lowering skies, the raindrops bouncing off the stone of the patio and visibility compromised.
There are people in summer clothes without umbrellas caught out and sheltering under the very trees that once acted as public urinals for the random picnicking piddlers.
But earlier this morning when the Sunday slumberers were still lying abed, it was much brighter as I cycled along the canal towpath.
The overnight rain had stopped leaving wet paths and roads booby trapped with giant puddles.
The canal was quiet and peaceful with the heavy scent of hawthorn blossom from the bordering hedges hanging in the air.
The ducks who weren't still snoozing on the towpath were having their morning bath and fearless of ladies on bikes. Although the water wasn't mirror calm the reflections of boats and bridges were very clear.
I'm hoping that the rain disappears later this afternoon so that I can have a dry ride to the bike shop for an important purchase. Two other family members are hoping the same thing.
And lo and behold as I type the dark skies have moved off to be replaced with blue skies and white clouds. For how long I wonder.
