Aquilegia

A good job well done. The front room has been gutted and repainted. Curtains washed, ironed and re-hung. All nooks and crannies wiped and polished. You could eat your tea of the living room floor. I am knackered but it had to be done and its one more thing of "the list" I will need to go to work tomorrow for a rest :)

The brightness of the picture is in stark contrast to the majority of the day - the heavens opened from daybreak until about 4pm. We now have a gorgeous sunny evening. Typical....

So the flower, its an Aquilegia. The genus name Aquilegia is derived from the Latin word for eagle (aquila), because the shape of the flower petals are said to resemble an eagle's claw. They are also known as columbines, or granny's bonnet. Like me they answer to anything! I think this one many be Aquilegia canadensis or wild aquilegia. Over time, loads of these and other varieties have spring up in the garden. Very pretty if relatively short lived. They will be gone by the end of May but will leave full seeds heads to enjoy!
