A chef's day...

View from the Quantock Hills

Went for a nice walk in the hills today. This picture was takes from the Triscombe stone. Down the bottom of the road which goes down by the quarry on the left is a pub where I worked 10 years ago. While there we won lots of awards, the best one was the AA national pub of the year in 2004. The head chef there was one of the most inspiring people I worked with and because of him I started to really enjoy cooking again.

The hills in the distance are the Brendon Hills and it is the start of Exmoor. I was hoping to find some St Georges mushrooms but unfortunately there were none to be found. Maybe it has been too dry.

I know that in the quarry there are peregrine falcons nesting and we also heard a cuckoo and sky larks. There was a sign that said a new stallion had been introduced to the area and he might be a little inquisitive. We did come across about 15 wild ponies but were not sure if the stallion was amongst them.

If you enjoy hiking, mountain biking or nice views this is definitely a place to visit. The Quantock Hills are an area of outstanding beauty and when you come here you will see why!
