Children in the street in Antananarivo, Madagascar.
On our arrival in Tana, Madagascar, we were staying in a small hotel near the airport, in the late afternoon we ventured out in the neighbourhood - the market and back streets. It is a very poor area.
The children in this photo were very excited to see us vizahas (foreigners), and even more excited to see themselves in the displays of our digital cameras.
None of we Pioneers knew each other prior to joining the programme. I had met Jo, Abby and Steve at Heathrow. At the Tana Airport luggage carousel we met Grant and Tony. Later, Jon arrived at the Hotel, Maison Rouge. We met Greg and Laura the following morning at the airport for our flight to Fort Dauphin, where we met the final 3 members of our team: Steph, Lisbeth and Pete, as well as our co-ordinator Rachel, and guides Claude, Erik, Yvonne and Tinahy.
