Emerging Bromeliad Bloom

This plant was given to me as a gift. For almost 2 years I have been faithfully watering it only bottled drinking water solely down the center "throat" of the plant. It needed non direct sunlight.
I am amazed I didn't kill it because I am notorious for under-watering plants and over-watering cactus.
It will eventually grow out on a 46 cm (18 inch) stalk with a larger bloom.
