Running W

This is the entrance to the fabled King Ranch in South Texas, with its iconic Running W brand. The King Ranch covers 825,000 acres (333,865 hectares) or 1,289 square miles (it's a little bit smaller than the state of Rhode Island). The ranch raises horses and cattle, conducts farming operations, a thriving eco-tourism business, has a publishing house, owns a hardware store, has a "saddle shop" where fine furniture, clothing, and accessories (oh, yeah, and saddles) are sold, and has a museum in the city of Kingsville. The ranch has four divisions spread out across several counties, including most of Kleberg County, much of Kenedy County (one "n") and parts of Brooks, Jim Wells, Nueces, and Willacy counties. Tours and nature and birding tours are offered, and one of these days I'd like to take a full-day birding tour of this beautiful and immense place.
