Dense nest of obligations

The perpetual to/do list. It's never satisfied, Its voracious appetite and bottomless gut demand my attention. I sometimes do unlisted things and add them to the list post hoc just so I can experience the satisfaction of completing a task. From whence does the idea of a to/do list come?
