Sign O' The Times?

While Graciepix and myself were stravaiging around Glasgow when we spotted this marvellous sign.

Why don't we make stuff like this anymore? I would like a country full of brass plaques with Pythonesque signage and elegant type.

Which bring me to another point to ponder. I wonder if the word 'elevator' was originally a Scottish word for a 'lift' which we exported to the US?

Now this may not be as far fetched as it sounds. The word 'pinkie' for a little finger is only used in Scotland and North America and 'subway' for an underground is only in Glasgow and New York.

I claim 'elevator' for the nation. It's ours again.
