Empty nest
Who trusted God was love indeed
And love Creation's final law
Tho' Nature, red in tooth and claw
With ravine, shriek'd against his creed
-- Alfred, Lord Tennyson (In Memoriam A.H.H.)
Well, the crows won this morning. There was a flutter of wings, and my wife looked up from a chair near the balcony, and saw a crow on the window-box. She shooed it away, but the hatchlings were already gone, presumably eaten.
The dove hasn't returned, nor can I blame her.
