In praise of 'Percy Wiseman'

When I reached the big 60, the lovely people in my office presented me with this beautiful potted rhododendron. Every year in May it bursts into these pretty blush pink flowers. It's a Yakushimanum type and they were apparently introduced into Britain in the 1930s from Yakushima, an island off Japan. It's named after the chap who bred it at Waterers nursery. It stands proudly by my front door and I'm doing my best to keep it growing well!

For the record: 15C, sunny periods and a heavy shower. More welcome rain for our poor parched gardens...
