"And what, pray, is this device?!" I boldly asked the man in the lottó shop. Well, that's sort of what happened...I didn't really ask in a manner that might suggest that I'd just ambled out of a Dicken's novel, at least I hope I didn't. Anyway, the guy turned the machine on to reveal that it was a random number generator for people who didn't stick to a certain set of numbers when playing, dating from the days before the computer which generated the same at the touch of a button. This thing meant that it was akin to generating random numbers on your scientific calculator (when you should, no doubt, have been doing something far more worthwhile), leading to long hours of staring at the display, lost in wonder at something completely daft. Groovy, wee machine, I reckon.
