This little guy startled me just now in the garden. This is the singing species - American toad (bufo americanus) - that keep me up at night trying to determine their exact pitches! Most times one will start on an F#, another answers on A, and then sometimes changes to a B - or a third competitor begins the B pitch - i suppose to try to outdo the A note singer. Those intervals are also the first three pitches of the song The Long Time Now by T-Bone Burnett! If I can't sleep I might as well make some musical connections.

The blip title refers to Almeda Riddle's version of "Froggy Went A Courtin'" - my favorite
