Happy accident?

Sometimes, (like today), I just "faff" about . I was using my crappy point and shoot flash to trigger the optical slaves on some very cheap thyristor flashes I have. I thought maybe I could use them for background lighting. There were some barndoors on them and when I looked on the LCD I saw this.
The question remains, "can I duplicate that burst effect at will?"
Only time will tell
