Bury Saint Edmund Cathedral
Long day today, working from Harwich, picking up a small group from a massive cruise ship to visit both Cambridge and the lovely town of Bury Saint Edmunds. This cathedral was once part of one of the largest monasteries in the UK. The monastery held the shrine of the king of Anglia Edmund who was killed by the Vikings. Destroyed by Henry VIII and much neglected it finally received this nave in the 19th century. It is beautiful and has a really good atmosphere. Wonderful warm colours, the light coming in through the stained glass windows. It is staffed by the most welcoming people who positively encourage photographs. Next time I bring my wide angle and do a Wayfarer's on the ceiling which is made of wood and has angels at the end of each alternative groin.
