Cellar Door

Our new (c. 1890) house has what I think is a very cool cellar door...just one of the many things I like about our place. I can't go past it though without singing in my own head a darling song I learned in grade school.

Oh little playmate, come out and play with me
and bring your dollies three.
Climb up my apple tree,
Look down my rain barrel
Slide down my cellar door
And we'll be jolly friends forever more.

It was a rainy day. She couldn't come out to play,
With tearful eyes and tender signs
I could hear her say:

I'm sorry playmate, I cannot play with you
My dollies have the flu,
Boo-hoo hoo hoo hoo hoo.
Can't climb your rain barrel,
Can't slide your cellar door
But we'll be jolly friends forever more.

I know there are lots of other versions of this song, and no doubt even one with some handclapping pattern to it.

Anyway, happy Friday the 13th...and enjoy whatever you have planned for the weekend!
