White tailed kite

These small and very beautiful hawks show up over marshes and grasslands. They often hover while they search the ground for a bit of food. I took this shot at the small serpentine prairie near Redwood Regional Park. Spring wildflowers have more than passed their peak, but some summer ones are thriving. And see how unseasonably cloudy it is!
