The Outdoor Centre at the Sligachan Hotel

Used by campers, walkers, climbers and visitors just passing, this is the Sligachan outdoor centre. To locals it is simply known as 'The Slig'. My wife and I enjoyed a family re-union here today with other members of her family. We were there to celebrate a forthcoming birthday.

In the season the bar is extraordinarily busy, well not surprisingly really since it is at the foot of The Cuillin Hills. There is a popular camp site just across the main road.

It is from here that the Glamig Hill Race is run. Runners and walkers go to the top of Glamaig and back. The record is about 41 minutes and someone has done the run barefoot in 48 minutes. The hill is 775 metres high. Each partaker has to collect a token at the top of the hill and present it on the old road bridge over the Sligachan river upon their return. The race is run in July.

I think I would take about 4 hours 10 minutes. Mind you I would take some lovely photographs whilst up there.
