The Miller's Tale
This is Tom Jones, today's guide-on-duty at Stretton Water Mill in Cheshire. For the princely sum of £4, we were treated to a personal guided tour of this historical gem. The mill was in continual use for hundreds of years until 1959, when the last miller retired. It then began a decline to near dereliction, until purchased by the imaginative county council and restored to full working order in the late 1970s.
It is a lovely place; a living building, creaking and clanking with gentle power.
"We need more visitors," said Tom, "Please spread the word."
So do go, if you can.
