~First Communion~
Today was a very special day for Sam. He received his First Communion. In the Catholic church this is one of the seven Sacraments and he has been preparing all school year for this. I took many pictures today and was torn as to which to choose, but this one means a lot to me and my Mom. It would have meant a lot to my Grandpa and my Grandma Cahill as well. She made this rosary and my parents gave it to Sam today. She made hundrends of them over the years before she got sick. All by hand, with the curcifix, plastic beads and rolls and rolls of wire. My mom said that she would do it for hours and would send them to Catholic missionaries around the world. She would have been very proud of him today. Below is what my Mom wrote to him in his card....
Sam,
When you were small you always treated Grandma Cahill with such love and compassion. Many people are afraid of or don't understand Grandma, but not you. You talked to her and gave her hugs when others shyed away. I want to give you this special item that she made before her illness. Please treasure it always because it was made with love and she would have wanted you to have it. You are a very special boy. Love Grandma Pat and Grandpa Bill
