Atmosphere - Joy Division
There are lots of bits near my work which very definitely have their own atmosphere. It's quite telling that the only shop-front on this block which ever seems to open for business these days is the bookmakers.
I also find it depressing that areas like this are left to decay away by councils so that profit can be made by selling off the land to developers to provide urban regeneration for the well off while the people who live in these areas are then forced to move further and further out of town further marginalising them from the city centre society. If there was more integration of the different economic strata in your average city perhaps the people with money would feel less intimidated by the people who have less than them. That said they might then have to start feeling guilty about their wealth so the councils could never allow that to happen...
Today's song is one of my favourite Joy Division tracks. MAybe not as upbeat as the likes of She's lost control, Transmission or Love will tear us apart but there's so much passion and emotion in it that it's a classic.
