High Head Castle
Took Dawn to High Head Castle on the way to Carlisle today. I went earlier in the year and was quite taken with it.
High Head Castle is an odd mixture of derelict and intact. The buildings facade is the first thing you see as you approach over the nice neat lawned area. The front door is at the top of the steps and there is a window at each side of the door (with a closer look you realise they are blocked in window which are painted to look like real one's). The rest of the facade looks derelict. To get to the front door from the lawn you go between too columns with angels on top and down an avenue made by trimmed hedges that go round the front gardens. The cellars are perfect yet everything above them has fallen down. There are more pictures of this magical place on my flickr
