"My car does this funny thing where if you're about to skid, a wee orange light comes on with a picture of a wavey car on it starts to do this funny thing with the brakes. It's like it knows when it's about to slide."

That'd be the ABS system then.

It's funny how somethings are entirely obvious to some but completely alien to others just because they've never come across it. I came a cropper of that assumption once and had to backtrack and apologise for it. Makes me very aware of it now.
