Heron Hombre
The local grey heron on the Water of Leith at Canonmills, Edinburgh. This bird hangs about below the Canonmills Bridge by the Dionika Spanish restaurant, where I've been told the chef occasionally throws fishy scraps for it. I've snapped it a few times, getting the usual heron-standing-very-still shots. Today I popped by for a look and right enough a chunk of food splashed into the river. The heron was very cool about it, having a bit of a nibble then leaving it to float away. Just then a herring gull came under the bridge and snatched the snack, the heron gave chase down the river and wheeled round again. When it returned, I grabbed this shot.
Otherwise not a lot of note: work in Edinburgh, bought the paint for Kaite's bedroom wall rainbow (Crown Originals samplers) and caught the bus to & fro. It's almost cheating to photograph a bird that's practically tame, but I'm glad I got this elegant flight shot.
