coal hole

I noticed these on the pavement today, they are dotted around the pavements near work and each one seems to have a different pattern but I didn't know what they were. Apparently they are covers for coal holes and can be found all over London. I really like the fact that something so practical can be that ornate and will enjoy looking out for the different patterns on my walks around work.
