An average spider's web is comprised of the circular inner web and the spokes that stretch outwards from the middle. The circle of web are sticky to the touch, and the spokes are actually dry. When the spider crawls along it's beautifully constructed web it only walks along the spokes because if it walked on the circular portions it would get stuck.
