Bees creating a buzz

There's never a dull day working in a school! Just before lunchtime today, one of the teaching assistants came in to the office to let us know that there was a large swarm of bees just outside one of our buildings. The bees settled around a tree trunk in a small orchard area outside the Year 5 classrooms, and made this beautiful hive. Unfortunately some of the poor children were quite bothered about going to registration this afternoon, but the bees didn't bother with them.

Fortunately, the supply teacher we had in school today is a beekeeper, so after school he was going to smoke them and try to get the bees into a box and then take them home with him to a hive (at least I think that's what he was going to do - I didn't stick around to find out!).

I don't have a particularly fancy camera - it only has a 3x zoom - so had to get very close to take this.
