Doing Things Differently

Mike rang early this morning to say he'd found something I'd be interested in, when he walked his dog, Sam, last night. Would I like to go with him when he walked Sam this morning? Intrigued, of course I said yes.

We had a cracking walk through the Ravine, Gorge and Upper Lake areas of Roundhay Park. The sun shone through the trees, Sam (and Mike) met a lot of doggy friends and Mike showed me his find - a Nuthatch nest high up in the trunk of a tree. We stayed out of sight and with binoculars saw one of the pair flying in and out. We even saw them get rid of a fecal sack. It may be poo, but it was special none-the-less.

It was the first time I'd been out with Sam. I knew he was intelligent (for example, he opened Mike's rucksack before we went birding last week, stole his sandwiches and carefully extracted the meat to eat, leaving the bread intact) but not quite how much attitude he had. He is a Rottweiler/Labrador/Border Collie cross and displayed traits from all three during our walk.

As it turned out, we had the best of the day. After I'd had lunch, it rained for most of the afternoon. So, say hello to Sam, a dog with attitude.
