Cockchafer aka Maybug

I picked this chap/chapess up from the office steps yesterday where it was in grave danger of being trodden on first thing that morning. The plan had been to photograph it last night but a certain pregant friend appeared and I confess I forgot all about it.

However I did remember this evening and he/she was still sitting in the box apparently unconcerned and was happy enough to sit on a mushroom for me before tucking its head back in and going off to sleep. It can stay upstairs overnight and I'll put it out in the morning. Of course it might be close to the end of its relatively short lifespan and simply keel over - who knows! Meanwhile it's tucked up asleep on top of the mushroom!
