Head for the Hills
by Saves the Day
The boys and I went hiking in Hocking Hills for 6 hours today. It was a gorgeous winter wonderland, even with sunshine. Crazy dangerous adventures... I can't begin to explain... it was something you'd have to experience to really grasp it. Basically, everything that looked like snow or looked snow-covered was actually also covered by a layer of ice. Very, very slippery ice. And on the edge of cliffs. We all had our fair share of wipeouts, grabbing onto trees for dear life, and bear-crawling the trails. It was crazy... simple walking on flat land was grounds for a wipeout. If only we had videos... bumping down about 10 steep stairs on my butt, the boys ice-dancing together, and my most painful elimination of the day... crab-walking/sliding down a really slippery hill then bracing my foot on a root, only to have the root be ice-covered which left me gaining enough speed to end up flying off the edge of a 4 foot ledge onto my back/butt and then continuing to slide even further... whew! And if you caught the MXC reference, it's funny b/c we had been watching it the night before and their Slippery Slope of Death was no match for what we were up against! Good times, though. Oh, and we came upon this, which is the inside of the middle formation seen here from 90 feet above. Awesome that this weak waterfall created such a masterpiece... huge, too. I love nature.
