Big Melt at Lake Hood
Just landed in Anchorage to set up the airport for the company's seasonal service. Arrived with snow still up in the mountains and here at Lake Hood, the world's busiest float plane base. Taking a morning walk from the hotel to the international airport, the route allows one to walk along the lake and see the empty "slips" (where I hear there's a 20 year waiting list). Ice is melting fast and it will be only a few days before aircraft can land.
