Pinus Ridiculus

Today, after being entranced by watching the nesting robins and catching another shot of the bullfinches, we walked the nine-mile-odd round trip to Lymm via the Bridgewater Canal and Trans-Pennine Trail.

On the way back we spotted this curious specimen. Strangely, the 'Field Guide to Trees and Shrubs' we had to hand was of no use. Any ideas?
