Simple things
Today I went to a wine tasting (you got to take the glass home after). I also bought some new socks. While the company of two lovely friends made the wine tasting a fab way to pass a Saturday afternoon, I have to confess I was underwhelmed by the event and the highlight of my day was finding these socks (in a shop, I didn't just stumble across them).
I have a bit of a thing about socks. I usually get stripey ones from the Gap, but standards are slipping and the last batch all sprung holes a little too fast. So I've jumped ship and am trialling M&S. I usually get tights there, but not socks.
Anyway, the point of the snap was not to drone on about socks. The point was to remind myself that good company and simple pleasures are more important in life than fancy wines. I'm about to take a big drop in salary so it will be useful to remember that giving up the chance to splash out on overpriced events like a wine tasting will be no great loss. Especially as it turns out that, for me at least, drinking lots of different wines in a short space of time makes you feel a bit sick. I was hoping to learn a bit more about wine than that, but I guess it's a useful lesson all the same.
