Castle cum barn?
Perhaps a little unfairly, the Anglican Church of St John sub Castro in Lewes was once described, by Mark Antony Lower, founder of the Sussex Archaeological Society, as a "modern brick structure, which we cannot commend, as it is a kind of hybrid between a castle and a barn". Castles were meant to dominate and subjugate the masses, whereas churches do the opposite... or do they?
