Everything in moderation

A series is about to begin.

Spent the morning watching the French Open - great, wall-to-wall tennis until July. This afternoon was spent embarking on another episode of loft clearing at the family home. Three huge boxes of books were unearthed going back to 1912, so I have loads of material to play with should I tire of blipping flowers.

There were some interesting finds relating to various members of the family: stamp collections, chess and philosophy books belonging to my brother, Blue Peter annuals and Swap Shop books that were mine (I'm a simple soul), my mum's architectural tomes and books about collies, nothing for my sister because she was too busy chasing boys and putting on nail varnish, and a vast array of engineeering, home-brewing, Gaelic and stolen library books of my dad's.

The inside covers of some of his books had various swotty Dux prize book plates and this one. Now, I thought temperance was to do with abstinence from the drink; I suppose Primary 4 is a good age to start.
