Karen found the tiles.
What one finds when one gets home from work of an afternoon - the significant other has bought a lino' scraper, attacked the kitchen floor, and reveals beautiful quarry tiles. We have no idea of the ages of our house, which used to be a back-to-back. The front bit is around 1750, but my guess is the back house was more recent - the tiles seem to suggest so. The tiles in the living room at the front were laid on earth, but these are much more secure. Anyway, we are finally having the kitchen updated, which in the case of the floor seems to be to restore it to it's former glory. We are all amazed that anyone would cover it first with an imitation tile covering, then cover that with another imitation covering, with such lovely tiles underneath. Maybe tomorrow I'l get home to find the fireplace exposed.
And of course, the dog has to help - the bitch runs off when anyone starts banging.
