Iron Giants
I took this photo on the way home because of the dramatic sky. Many of you might be thinking that it's a shame that I didn't pick a vantage point without the pylons, but they were really the point. I love these iron giants marching across the landscape. They somehow seem majestic to me, striding across the valley in procession.
I may be biased. My dad was an electrical engineer and spent quite a lot of time up these things. Me and my sisters used to get to play in substations when he was on call, and to this day I love the hum and the smell of ozone from the high voltage electricity lines. On day trips out, pylons of interest were pointed out, and we were taught the difference between a tension tower and a suspension tower from an early age!
I really haven't done them justice - I think I will make them the sole object of my mission next time.
Just yesterday I saw a post on twitter calling for these pylons to be removed. I'm sure I'll be alone, but I hope their call goes unheard.
