"Got a Light, Mac?"
"No, but I've got a dark brown overcoat."
This is a detail of a mural painted in the beer garden of our local by the late "Mac" Mcgann, who has been mentioned previously on Blip by Booky Goatherd.
Mac was a musician who played with such luminaries as John & Beverley Martin, John Renbourn, McGuiness-Flint, members of the Bonzo Dog Band (from whom the quotation comes) & Ralph McTell, who gave Mac's wife, singer Dorris Henderson, a song called "Streets of London". Of course, the song later became a huge hit for McTell himself.
As well as his music Mac made a living from his art (In his youth he studied at Hornsey College of Art) & painted many pub signs & Thames barges, & drew excellent cartoons.
Sadly Mac was hit hard by Dorris' death in '05 & went into something of a decline. He passed away last February. Hopefully this mural will be restored as a memorial to him.
