Macro - Bamboo Skewer

This held the fruit garnish on my tropical drink. I was so intrigued by the "knot" at the end that I brought it home to blip it.
Call me crazy, but I kept thinking about some hardworking "third-world country" person who has to make these for a living.
How many can and do they make in an hour?
Is it really a person making them or has it become technologically automated?
How do they get the "sliver" of bamboo so uniform?
Who thought of this idea in the first place?
etc. etc.
What strange subject matter! I think I need to get "out" more often.
