As I blip this it is 5 days after this photo was taken. A few days ago a female duck lay dead by the water behind our house. We're not sure what happened, but I suspect she was attacked by a dog. It was not the mom of these little ones, but I also have not seen the duckling far right in this photo (and on their own in this blip) for several days now. Only three are left now.
These facts make this image a little sad for me.
It is however nothing compared to a similar situation last year. One of the ducks that visits Jesse's house regularly had some 7 chicks, which I happily photographed when they all came by one day. The next day however she showed up alone.
It's a duck life.
