Come on in, the water's ...

While the girls swam, I had a wander along the beach and saw these hardy souls braving the freezing North Sea. Meet, from left, Ben, Sukey and Alex. They swam because Ben, who has been a student in the city for three years, hadn't been in water at Porty before. My shots of them in the sea - they were the only ones - weren't too good and they very sportingly let me take this as a back up. It felt like I'd stumbled on a moment that they will recall long after the cold has been forgotten.
