One pot chicken

Fortunately for this lady this is the closest she'll ever get to being in a pot.

She's had a great day today. We've being digging over beds. Moving compost heaps. Making new ones. And generally disturbing soil. Which to a hen means one thing...

...worms!

Apart from in the Summer when Madeye likes to spend the day chasing tourist's cars. Scrounger is pretty much the only one of our hens who bothers to come out of their little field at the back of the house. As her name implies she likes to see what little tidbits she can pick up around and about the garden, first target being the ground underneath the bird feeders.

She spent most of today following us around as we worked in the garden. Devouring any unfortunate worm or grub that happened to turn up. She was practically purring she was so happy.

And of course after a good dinner. She needed a dust bath. It would appear the only dry soil she could find were in our pots. Luckily this one didn't have anything growing in it.

Do you think this is what the gardening programmes have in mind when they talk about container gardens?
