Hotel du Vin
Out for an anniversary meal on Saturday (although it's actually the anniversary of the day we met today - Sunday 29 May 2001!).
Birmingham has lots of great places to eat, including 2 Michelin star restaurants, Purnell's and Edmund's - but we couldn't get a table unless we wanted to eat at 10 pm so we went for Hotel du Vin instead. We were both very happy that we did as the meal and the service was fantastic - probably the best meal out we've ever had.
I had Moules Mariniere to start, followed by Wild Mushroom spaghetti & a rocket & parmesan salad and Gary had Devon Crab spaghetti followed by a T-Bone steak and chips.
I was a bit thrown by the wine list as there was a huge choice and a very wide range of prices too! I don't drink red, and usually just go for Pinot Grigio as I know it is one I like - but that was probably the only wine not on there! But I saw a wine name I vaguely recognised, Sancerre, so plumped for that - and it was lovely!
Even the bill wasn't as big as we feared it might be - so it is our new favourite restaurant, we will definitely be going back. A great way to celebrate a very happy 10 years!
Just need to add some music for the Musical May challenge - thought a bit about this, as we like quite different music. But then had a brainwave. One of the first films we went to see was Shrek, and it's still a favourite. So here is one of the songs from the first film, Best Years of Our Lives - very appropriate :o)
