One o'clock time ball, on the Nelson Monument Carlton Hill from window, through binoculars.

Monument built between 1807-1815, to commemorate the battle of trafalgar in 1805.

It was and still is used to send time signals to shipping in the Forth.

The time ball was installed in 1853, for ships to set chronometers at 1pm, daily.

It is raised 4 mins before 1pm and dropped on the 1pm hour sincronised by the one o'clock gun fired daily from Edinburgh Castle.

The time ball mechanism was repaired and brought back into service on 24th September 2009.

Dr Who would be pleased - being a time Lord !!
