confusing sign

Out for a walk in Dollar, I spotted this great looking 3 on someone's gates. I stepped into their garden to snap it, then realised there was a little fat guy looking rather bemusedly at me. "Just taking a photo of your number 3", I said. "It's not a 3, it's an E", he growled.
