Petra

One of the Middle East's many treasures. A spectacular rose-stone city built by the Nabateans in the 3rd Century BC. It was from here that they commanded the trade routes from Damascus to Arabia. Palaces, tombs, temples are carved from the sandstone cliffs and it's a jaw-dropping, neck creaking place to visit. Worthy of its wonder of the world status, if you ignore the locals trying to get you to take a donkey/horse/camel ride. But then, for as long as the tourists take them up (like I did!) they'll stay!

A magnificent few hours (flying visit) with glorious weather, if a little chilly when out of the direct sunlight. Well worth the visit. If you go to Jordan and only visit one place, make it here. Skip Amman!

Have blogged the whole weekend - link on 'about' page. More pics to tempt you!
