Cornelius V.'s Summer Shack

We went down to Newport, RI today to see a couple of the beach bungalows of the rich and famous from the gilded age. We took a tour of The Breakers, the summer "cottage" of Cornelius Vanderbilt II. Critics in the past have called its opulence "vulgar," and it really was over-the-top but impressive nonetheless. It was a gorgeous day, so we skipped the other houses, opting to take a stroll on the Cliff Walk and enjoying a cup of clam chowder down at the harbor before heading home to our own humble abode.
