Tales from St Ives

By Derekhallstives

Good Morning Your Majesty

Great morning as Margaret & I got to meet the Queen & Duke of Edinburgh, shake hands & talk to them. Couldn't get a picture of that but this was at the end of the visit as she approached her car.

the story was:
They were stopping at Penzance on their way to The Isles of Scilly; however needed a backup plan in case they couldn't fly onwards, so chose St Ives as the backup including a 25 minute visit to St Ives Lifeboat Station of which I am Operations Manager.

So we have been quietly planning for a visit there in which the Coxswain and I would escort the Royal Couple around the boathouse & introduce them to the crew & management team.

However as luck would have it, it was the best flying weather of the year so our visit was not needed. She did ask however that some of us attend her arrival at penzance so they could meet us & say thank you, which she did. They were lovely, he was really funny & making jokes with us (he asked about our last shout, when told it was 3 days ago rescuing 6 people in a Hawaiian Outrigger Canoe which had capsized, he quickly replied 'well they are a long way from home'), and she kindly thanked us for preparing the backup plan for her ('it was our pleasure maam').

Our daughter Alison & Margaret's Mum & Dad were also in the crowd & were just a foot or two from them when they met the crowd, Alison got a MUCH better picture than I dod here.

For Ozzy Fans, Ozzy says thanks, he will badger us about getting a Bandana & see how he gets on, he will have to get past me though ;-)
